Erotic Fiction Publishers An In-Depth Look Part 1

Over the next week we will look at one Erotic Fiction publisher each day and go in-depth looking at the type of books they publish, their history and where their market is focused.

1. Black Lace

Black Lace is a brand published by Virgin Books that specializes in erotica and erotic romance written by women specifically for women; Black Lace does not publish novels written by men partly as a marketing scheme, partly to better appeal to their target demographic. The books explore women's sexuality as well as such themes as BDSM, group sex and bisexuality. Black Lace is considered by many to be one of the tamer brands of erotic fiction. Black Lace began publishing in 1993, has published over 250 titles and sold over three million books and publishes an average of 2 new titles every month. Recently some of the older novels have been reprinted under a new brand from Virgin Books, Cheek. One of the more popular erotic fiction brands Black Lace has had 3 styles of covers(see below). The latest covers do not feature the Black Lace brand on the front cover(it is located on the spine) which has made them harder to identify for many buyers.
