Erotic Fiction in retail stores in Australia, where we stand.

Currently, in Australia Erotic Fiction is treated like some poor second cousin. Some bookstores and big chain stores have none(Angus and Robertson, K-mart, BigW), others have a comparatively small selection(Borders, Dymocks) and some have a decent selection (QBD). Now given the popularity of erotic fiction you would think it would be the opposite. Even in QBD the books are hidden away on the top shelf so are easily missed if you don't completely scan the shelves, while this is slightly understandable needing to keep them away from children it does not help the sales of these books. In Borders, which given the size of the store you would think would have a large selection to choose from, they are jammed in with the 'Romance' titles which makes finding them a long and tedious task.

There are only a few brands you can choose from as well, QBD has Nexus, Black lace, Elloras Cave, Avon Red, Brava, Cheek and Ann Summers and a couple of other odd ones. Borders has Black lace, Elloras Cave, Avon Red and Brava. Dymocks has Delta, Black lace, Elloras Cave.

There are a number of brands that are not represented at all by retail stores, Blue Moon, Silver Mink, X Libris, Chimera, Silver Moon. While some of these brands are no longer printing new titles, the older titles are still avaliable to be purchased.

So knowing all of that is there any ray of hope on the horizon? Unfortunately not. For keen lovers of erotic fiction , the internet remains the only hope for a large and diverse selection.
